There’s a new sergeant in town.

Last week, Sgt. Frank Lenz started his new role with the Oakland County Sheriff’s substation in Oxford Township.

While Lenz is new to Oxford, he’s worked for the sheriff’s office for 19 years.

“I’ve worked a lot of different areas within the sheriff’s office,” he said. “I’ve worked throughout the entire county, when I was both undercover and then I was also on the (Oakland County) SWAT Team for the last 12 years . . . So, I’ve been involved with every township.”

Lenz grew up in St. Clair Shores and received his associate’s degree in law enforcement from Macomb Community College.

According to Lenz, he has worn many hats throughout his career in law enforcement.

He began his career with the sheriff’s office working part-time in court services in August1997. He became full-time in May 1998.

He later began working road patrol. He was assigned to Royal Oak Township for several years, then moved to Rochester Hills.

Lenz spent 12 years working with the Oakland County SWAT team. He also spent 10 of those years working as an undercover officer, primarily in warrants and auto theft. For the last four years, he also worked with the Detroit Commercial Auto Theft Squad (CATS), an undercover surveillance and carjacking unit in Detroit.

In October 2015, Lenz returned to Rochester Hills before being promoted into his current role. He’ll serve as the substation’s second-in-command under Lt. Scott Patterson.

Lenz is excited to be joining the Oxford community and looking forward to the challenges it brings.

“It’s going to be a slightly different experience,” he said. “I like the downtown community. I like the wooded areas and the parks. I like the larger (sense of) community. I’ve mostly been around the city and in urban areas most of my career, (so) I’m excited to learn the flip-side of it and . . . (experience) more of a country-living style.”

He resides in Troy with his wife Katie and his 17-year-old son Brandon.
