District welcomes 22 new teachers to classrooms

 

A new school year always comes along with new faces and fresh ideas.

This year, Oxford Schools welcomed 22 new teachers at the start of the 2016-17 academic year.

Meet the new teachers:

Sasha Huang will be teaching Chinese at Oxford Elementary School. She has been teaching for 13 years and previously taught at elementary schools in Taiwan. She moved to the United States with her husband and two daughters last year and is now looking forward to joining Oxford Schools.

Madeline Wahl will teach special education in the Resource Room at OES. Wahl received her education at Michigan State University. For the past year, she served as a student teacher in the Troy school district. She lives with her parents, younger brother, and her dog, Millie. Wahl said she looks forward to learning from her colleagues and her students.

Alisa Cremer will serve as a Resource Room teacher at OES. She graduated from Central Michigan University in May 2016 with her degree in Elementary Special Education. She has worked as a substitute teacher since 2012 and has been working in the summer school program at High Point School, in Ann Arbor, for the past three summers. She currently resides outside of Lapeer with her boyfriend, Patrick, and their puppy, Ace.

Cody Ruch will teach fifth grade at Clear Lake Elementary. He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Oakland University with minors in language arts and mathematics. Ruch worked at Oxford Parks and Recreation’s summer camp, Fun-N-Sun, for four years before becoming a teacher at Oxford Schools.

Shawn Crosby will teach kindergarten at Leonard Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from Marygrove College. Over the past five years, Crosby has experience teaching many different grade levels, including lower elementary. Crosby worked as a reading interventionist at Daniel Axford Elementary last year. She currently resides in Oxford with her husband and two children.

Rory MacDonald will teach sixth grade special education at Oxford Middle School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in special education from Wayne State University. He previously served as a long-term substitute for the district. MacDonald lives in Mount Clemens with his wife and soon-to-be-born daughter.

Cassandra McNeill will teach seventh grade geography and world history and intervention at OMS. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and major in social studies from Baker College. She is currently pursuing a K-12 visual arts endorsement.

Shiloh Christie will teach sixth through 12th grade mathematics at Oxford Virtual Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Oakland University and a Master of Arts in educational technology from the University of Michigan-Flint. Christie has taught secondary math for 10 years. He lives in Oxford with his wife, Rachel, and children, Brooklyn, Anna, Lucy, Gracie and Luke.

Julia Lengemann will teach several business classes at Oxford High School, including personal finance and accounting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration and Master in Education certification from Aquinas College.

Lengemann served as an instructional technologist at Mt. Morris Schools for four years and taught business and technology at Capac and Imlay City Schools for six years. She lives in Imlay City with her husband, 13-year-old twin daughters, Mary Grace and Ana and 12-year-old daughter Lilian.

Sandra Martin will teach computer programming at OHS. Martin previously tutored students with disabilities and served as an instructor at Oakland Community College. She has also worked as a software engineer with companies like Nationwide, The Mayo Clinic and IBM.

Christie DeSano will teach American Sign Language at OHS. She received her undergraduate degree from Oakland University and is currently continuing her education at Madonna University. DeSano served as a long-term substitute at Oxford Schools last year. She also serves as an OHS varsity cheer coach.

Judd Robertson will teach special education math at OHS. Robertson received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and a master’s in special education from the University of Michigan-Flint. He taught at Atherton Community Schools in Burton for the past 10 years, including various social studies courses and special education math classes.

Melissa Gray will teach special education at OHS. She received her undergraduate from Western Michigan University and is currently working towards receiving her master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University. Gray spent the last seven years teaching at Macomb Academy, a post-secondary program in Clinton Township. She lives with her husband, Jack, and their two boys Jacksen, 4 and Leo, 22 months.

Wanqiu Raymer will be teaching Chinese at Oxford Middle School and OHS. She received her education in China before receiving her master’s degree from Michigan State University. Raymer has been teaching since 2012. She lives with her husband and dog in Troy. The couple is expecting a baby in February.

Amanda Bausack will teach geometry and AP statistics at OHS. She holds a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of Michigan-Flint and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics education with a chemistry education minor at Saginaw Valley State University. Bausack spent the past six years teaching math at Frankenmuth High School. Her husband is a teacher at OHS. They have two children: 2-year-old Leroy and 8-month-old Ursula.

Joe Fedorinchik will teach social studies at OHS, which he attended during his high school years. Fedorinchik previously coached basketball at OHS and will now serve as the boys’ varsity assistant.

Katherine Tanevski will serve as a mentor teacher at Oxford Virtual Academy. She holds a Secondary Education certificate in English and history from Oakland University. Tanevski has been teaching in a virtual education setting for the last four years. She lives with her husband, Michael, and 3-month-old daughter, Isabella.

Craig Trombly will teach physics, chemistry, and physical science at Oxford High School. He holds a master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University. Trombly has been a teacher for 11 years and previously taught at Grand Blanc High School. He also coached wrestling during his time at GBHS. He resides in Oxford with his wife Jennifer, who teaches at Clear Lake Elementary, their daughters Chloe and Quinn, and their dog, Nonny.

Janell Bahoura will serve as a school psychologist at OMS and Leonard Elementary. She holds a Master of Arts in school and community psychology from Wayne State University.

Also new to the district are Angela Rasmussen, Katherine Egan and Rebecca Gibbons.
