Oxford Wildcat swimmers sink Stoney Creek

Oxford Lady Wildcats took a 95-91 victory against Stoney Creek High at an away match September 15.

The meet between two OAA Blue Division teams gave the Wildcats their first win over Stoney Creek in Oxford history.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of sophomore Claire Alexander, freshman Ashlee Weltyk, senior captain Bella Giannola, and Rachel Commons took second with a time of 2:00.44, just tenths off the school record.

In the 200 Freestyle, Alexander finished second with a time of 2:08.49. Freshman Sabrina Kurk took third and Danielle Kemp took fourth place.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Giannola came in second with a season-best time of 2:25.49. Victoria Mc Clenaghan finished third and Emily Vican took fourth.

In the 50 Freestyle, Commons took second with a time of 27.56. Christina Boydston came in third.

In the diving portion, Oxford Sophomore Keira Veltigian came in first with a score of 197.55. Jenna Zeiter finished second and Emma Moore placed 4th for Oxford. Zeiter’s score is a personal best, putting her fourth on Oxford’s All-Time Top Ten List.

In the 100 Butterfly, Giannola claimed second, with a time of 1:03.78. Commons finished third while Veltigian finished fourth.

In the100 Freestyle, Weltyk finished second with a season-best time of 57.42. Christina Boydston took third for Oxford.

In the 500 Freestyle, Kurk came in second place with a time of 5:55.40, moving her up to eighth on the All-Time Top Ten List. Kemp finished in third place.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Weltyk, Commons, Veltigian, and Giannola took first with a time of 1:50.30. Oxford’s B Relay of Mc Clenaghan, Hannah Schonfeld, Kurk, and Boydston came in third.

In the 100 Backstroke, Alexander claimed second with a time of 1:06.57.

In the 100 Breaststroke, Weltyk finished second with a time of 1:17.11. Victoria Mc Clenaghan finished in third place and Kaleigh Rogers finished in fourth.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Kurk, Boydston, Griffith, and Alexander took 2nd with a time of 4:11.91. Oxford’s B Relay of Vican, Veltigian, Schonfeld, and Kemp came in third to clinch the victory over Stoney Creek.

Oxford is now 2-1 overall in the division.

Next up, the team will face Notre Dame Preparatory on Thursday, September 22nd at 6:30 p.m. at the Notre Dame Natatorium.
