A young man recognized For spreading acts of kindness

Spreading good will comes easy for Clarkston High School senior Brad Flaugher.
Flaugher was honored for his commitment to the community on March 1 by the Michigan Council of Social Studies. At the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, he was recognized for his good service with ‘The Great Influence Award? for his involvement with extracurricular activities in his school, church, family and community.
‘I was really surprised I was nominated because there was great people competing,? said Flaugher.
Involved with community service, Flaugher enjoys volunteering at the Grace Center of Hope in Pontiac, where he tutors and mentors young inner city children. Even more commendable, Flaugher stayed a week in Bolivia to visit with his sponsored child, Alfredo.
‘When I got there, everyone was friendly and I was just absorbing the love,? he said.
‘I raised $2,000 for Alfredo and his family by coordinating a can drive,? Flaugher added. ‘We were so happy when people were donating money so well.?
Flaugher was anonymously nominated for the award, and once he received notice he was in the drawing, he completed an application that stood out among the rest.
Flaugher has a message for the anonymous person responsible: ‘Thank you for recognizing the things I have done. Hopefully I can pursue others to pursue civic duties.?
