Boys swim team wins home opener

The Wildcats varsity boys swim team’s Dec. 7 home opener ended with a 114-72 win over fellow Oakland Activities Association (OAA) White division team West Bloomfield.

Head Coach Jackie Rank said the meet served as a great start to the season.

“The boys performed well and I liked most of what we saw,” said Rank “The coaching staff was able to pinpoint some immediate areas that need work and we look forward to seeing what these boys can accomplish.”

The results were as follows:

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of senior Michael Scepka, senior captain Garrett Warren, Bagans and freshman Zach Beatty took first with a MISCA-qualifying time of 1:46.56. Oxford’s B Relay of junior Alex Olheiser, Bagans, Nolan May, and Zach Allion finished third.

In the 200 Freestyle, freshman Cole Bukoski came in second with a time of 1:59.56, which puts him eighth on Oxford’s All-Time Top Ten List. Freshman Ben Datsko and sophomore Cameron Mumbrue took third and fifth respectively.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Beatty finished second with a time of 2:10.56, which puts him fifth on the All-Time Top Ten List. Junior J.J. Bagans finished in third with the ninth fastest time in Oxford history and May came in fourth.

In the 50 Freestyle, sophomore Carter Pollard touched first with a time of 24.81. Senior Peter Bagans and sophomore Zach Allion came in third and fifth respectively.

In the diving portion of the event, Senior Captain Mitchell Mulligan claimed first with a score of 210.80. Sophomore Evan Covert, in his diving debut, finished in third with 128 points, which puts him 10th on the Top Ten List.

In the 100 Butterfly, Warren took first with a County-qualifying time of 56.03. May came in second with a time that puts him 10th on the All-Time Top Ten List and Datsko finished in fourth.

In the 100 Freestyle, Beatty came in second with a time of 53.13. Scepka and Olheiser took third and fifth respectively.

In the 500 Freestyle, Bukoski finished first with a time of 5:34.98, which puts him eighth on the Top Ten List. Mumbrue and Allion took third and fourth respectively.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Scepka, Datsko, May, and Pollard touched second with a time of 1:40.04.

In the 100 Backstroke, Warren claimed his second win of the night with a MISCA-qualifying time of 59.65. Olheiser and sophomore Ethan LaRock finished in second and fourth respectively.

In the 100 Breaststroke, JJ Bagans took first with a MISCA-qualifying time of 1:06.78. Peter Bagans and Scepka rounded out the top three spots.

In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Bukoski, Beatty, Warren, and Pollard finished first with a time of 3:36.77.

On Tuesday, December 12, The Wildcats travel to Royal Oak Middle School (formerly Dondero) to take on the Ravens.
