Cats finish season with big 43-7 win

It’s no secret the 2017 season was a difficult and disappointing one for the Oxford Wilcats varsity football team, but at least they ended things on a high note.

Oxford demolished the Berkley Bears 43-7 in an OAA crossover game Friday night.

The Wilcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Drew Carpenter scored a touchdown on a 5-yard run, then quarterback Parker Fleming completed a 14-yard TD pass to Ben Nuss.

Oxford added another touchdown in the second quarter when Fleming completed a pass to Matt Mielnicki for 80 yards. This was followed by a 2-point conversion completed by Carpenter.

The Cats ended the first half with a 22-7 lead.

Oxford kept racking up the points in the second half.

In the third quarter, Devon Hudson scored on a 28-yard run, followed by Carpenter, who had a 15-yard TD run.

Caleb Tabert scored Oxford’s last touchdown of the night on an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Overall, Oxford racked up 337 yards (128 passing and 209 rushing) in 55 plays to Berkley’s 208 yards in 46 plays.

Fleming completed five of 14 pass attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

The Wildcats finished the season with overall record of 2-7. The team was 1-6 in the OAA Red.
