The Oxford Wildcats took to the road this past Friday in search of a winning streak as they faced Stoney Creek.

In wet conditions, they were able to achieve what they set out to do and notched a decisive 26-0 victory against the Cougars on their Homecoming night.

Each team got off to a slow start and found moving the ball difficult. The scoring began when, on fourth down, Stoney Creek snapped the ball over the punters head on their own 18-yard line and the ball went out of the end zone for a safety giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

They would add a field goal on the ensuing possession to extend the lead to 5-0.

As the rain continued to cause havoc on the field, the teams continued to slug it out. Time moved slowly as each team struggled to find an offensive rhythm.

Oxford was the most impressive of the two as they would be able to muster some yardage before they would punt it back to the Cougars.

As the half neared the end, the Wildcats would finally find the end zone on the strength of a 3-yard touchdown run by senior Ethan Williams, giving the Wildcats a 12-0 advantage.

This was one of the better first halves that the Wildcats have played this year on both sides of the ball. The offense was able to hit some big plays through the air and on the ground, and the defense was stout.

Despite being at home and playing their homecoming game, Stoney Creek was just unable to sustain drives.

The second half of the game would see more of the same. Williams, who finished the night with 209 yards on the ground, scored a second touchdown. Matt Mielnicki, who had two interceptions, scored a touchdown on a 29-yard hookup from Parker Flemming.

The defense would come up with stop after stop frustrating the Cougars and holding them to 85 total yards.

This is one of the few games where the Wildcats played equally well in both halves, an encouraging sign as the season nears its conclusion. Currently the Wildcats are 3-3 on the season and the playoffs are a distinct possibility. Next up for Oxford is homecoming this Friday against Troy Athens at 7 p.m.
