As one Oxford home décor and antique shop closes, another one opens.

Craig Shagena is bringing his many years of woodworking expertise to downtown Oxford through his shop Caveman & Pip, located on 28 S. Washington, which opened Oct. 1.

Craig offers services such as custom woodworking, home decor and antique sales, custom painting, antique appraisals, furniture repair and restoration.

“I want Caveman and Pip to be a place where people can find antique treasures and bring their furniture that needs to be repaired… It’s nice to take history and old family heirlooms and bring them back to life,” Craig said.

According to Craig, the sky is the limit when it comes to his ability to create custom pieces of furniture for his customers.

“I can build just about anything… If you can dream it, I can build it,” said Craig.

Caveman and Pip Co-owners, Craig and Nicolette Shagena, are Oxford High graduates and former Oxford residents. Craig is a 2003 graduate while Nicolette graduated in 2002.

The couple currently resides in Lapeer with their 3-year-old daughter Emma, who served as inspiration for the company name. What began as Caveman Custom Woodworking in Lapeer became Caveman & Pip upon moving to Oxford in honor of Emma’s nickname, “Pipsqueak.”

The 1,800-square-foot sales floor features a number of vintage home decorations and furniture.

Dressers, chairs, books, mirrors, and vases are just a few of the one-of-a-kind treasures Oxford residents will find at the shop.

Caveman & Pip combines Nicolette’s 13 years of experience in retail management and Craig’s 13 years of woodworking experience—a dream come true for this pair of entrepreneurs.

“I think that’s really cool that we were able to combine woodworking and retail and make it something really unique and special that I don’t think the Oxford community’s ever seen before,” said Nicolette.

The Shagenas wanted to thank Sheri Moore and Barb Pace, of the former Salvage Sisters Boutique for their support throughout the shop’s transition.

“They gave us this incredible opportunity and we want to mention that,” said Nicolette.

Caveman & Pip carries goods from nearly 20 collectors, antique dealers and local artists. Many are the same vendors that were previously carried by Salvage Sisters Boutique, plus a few more.

Caveman & Pip’s hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
