Crash on Oakwood Rd. sends drivers to hospital

An attempt to pass two vehicles in a ‘no passing zone? appears to have been the cause of a collision Friday afternoon on W. Oakwood Road, west of N. Coats Road.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, a 33-year-old Oxford man driving a 2002 Chevy Cavalier was westbound on W. Oakwood Rd. when he ‘attempted to pass a garbage truck and a car in a no passing zone.?
‘Seeing the eastbound lane was not clear,? the driver of the Cavalier ‘quickly? re-entered the westbound lane, the report stated.
Unfortunately, the Cavalier ‘slipped onto (the) gravel shoulder? where the report indicated the driver ‘over-compensated and lost control? of the vehicle.
As a result, the Oxford man’s car entered the eastbound lane and collided with an on-coming 2000 Chrysler, driven by a 45-year-old Oxford woman.
Both drivers were transported to the POH Medical Center in Pontiac.
According to Oxford Fire Chief Jack LeRoy, American Medical Response was unable to provide an ambulance for transport, so paramedics from the Auburn Hills Fire Department responded.
The Oxford man was cited by the sheriff’s department for ‘careless driving.?
