Family escapes fire in Addison

An Addison family is lucky to be alive after they escaped a fire that completely destroyed their home Tuesday morning.
At 12:51 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire at 117 Donna Mae, a home in the Brookside Meadows Estates subdivision located off Rochester Rd, between Brewer and Romeo roads.
When fire personnel arrived at the scene, the two-story, 2,869-square-foot home was fully engulfed in flames, according to Addison Chief Jerry Morawski.
‘It’s a total loss,? he said.
Fortunately, the family, which included two parents and four children, were able to escape to safety.
‘The dad awoke to the smoke alarms going off,? Morawski said. ‘He went downstairs, smelled smoke, opened up the front door, and saw the smoke and fire rolling underneath the overhang of the porch. He shut the door and immediately ran back upstairs, grabbed his wife and kids, and ran outside.?
‘The family just moved in a week ago,? the chief noted.
As always, the Addison Fire Department’s response time was good.
The chief arrived on scene at 12:57 a.m. followed by the first engine at 1 a.m. and the first tanker truck 1:04 a.m. The fire was deemed under control at 1:39 a.m.
Addison was assisted by firefighters from Oakland and Oxford townships.
The blaze was ruled accidental, however, the cause is undetermined at this point, according to Morawski. It’s under investigation per standard procedure.
