An independent film that shines a light on the trials and tribulations of Native Americans is coming to the Oxford 7 Theater at 48 S. Washington St.

It will be shown at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 and on Monday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.

Few things teach us about the character of a place the way a road trip does. The long hours spent in a car with the windows down and right next to a few other people also teach us a lot about ourselves, as well.

Author Kent Nurburn learned this the hard way when he was forced into a road trip with a Native American Lakota elder named Dan in 1994 throughout North and South Dakota. He wrote a book about the experience not long after.

Now, the story has been brought to the silver screen in a movie of the same name as the book: “Neither Wolf Nor Dog.” The screenplay was penned by Nurburn, and Steven Lewis Simpson directed the film.

The cast includes Dave Bald Eagle, who filmed the movie at 95 years old and passed away before its release, Christopher Sweeney and Richard Bay.
