Fire erupts on Augusta Blvd.

OXFORD TWP. – A house fire erupted in the Paint Creek Village subdivision, off W. Drahner Rd., on Halloween night, causing significant property damage, but no injuries.

“Exterior-wise, you look at it right now and you can’t even tell anything’s wrong with it,” said Fire Chief Pete Scholz. “But inside, the whole center of the house is pretty well gutted out.”

Firefighters were called to a home in the 700 block of Augusta Blvd. shortly after 11 p.m.

A female occupant was in bed when she smelled smoke. She and her two dogs were able to safely exit the home.

Scholz said when they arrived, “heavy smoke” was “coming out of all the windows.”

When firefighters went inside, they found flames in the basement and on the first and second floors.

“Probably within an hour, we had it under control,” Scholz said.

The chief estimated the home sustained “probably close to $100,000” in structural damage and “probably another $60,000” in damage to contents.

Although the cause of the fire is undetermined, Scholz said, “The origin was in the basement.”

The incident is being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Fire Investigations Unit. Information released by the county stated the cause “may have been electrical in nature.”
