Going to the mat

Nineteen members of the Oxford Youth Wrestling Club participated in the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association’s state finals held March 13 at Oxford High School.
More than 600 young grapplers from 80 teams around the state participated in the finals.
Of the 19 wrestlers from Oxford, seven earned places in their age various groups and weight classes.
Jacob Peasley placed second in the 9-10 age group and 71-pound weight class.
Keegan Cantara (11-12; 60 pounds) and Nicholas Hadorn (11-12; 112 pounds) each placed third in their respective age groups and weight classes.
Placing fourth in their age groups and weight classes were Dylan Smith (11-12; 60 pounds); Matthew Frisch (11-12; 80 pounds); Andrew ‘AJ? Logan (11-12; 119 pounds); and Joshua Roe (13-14; 85 pounds).
Oxford kids who wrestled, but unfortunately didn’t place included Martin Giannola, Wesley Maskill, Liam Logan, Zachary Hadorn, Matthew Anger, Tanner Hetchler, Steven Ferguson, Zachary Miller, Dakota Peasley, Luke Blose, Bo Cantara and Michael Myer.
MMWA President Doug Myer, of Oxford, wished to thank all the volunteers and groups who helped conduct the statewide event including Oxford Wildcat Booster Club, Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance, Oxford Varsity Wrestling Team, Oxford Schools and Oxford Township Parks and Recreation.
