Golfers fall to Andover, Groves

The Varsity Girls Golf team ran into a couple of hot teams this past week in Oakland Activities Association, dropping two of the three matches they played.
On Monday, Sept. 13, the girls took on league favorite Bloomfield Andover and got a lesson in what OAA play was all about.
The girls lost their first match in the OAA 174-204.
Varsity Girls Head Coach Terry Kelley summed up their next match against Andover perfectly.
‘We came out flat, and they set a school record,? he said.
Freshman Kyla Kurczewski shot a 44 to lead Oxford. She was followed by junior Claire Wolanin’s 48. Juniors Hannah Beebe and Emilie Defrain both shot 56 for the Wildcats.
Oxford looked to rebound in their next match against Birmingham Groves on Wednesday, Sept. 15 and managed to shoot 184, which was below their team average.
However, it would not be enough as Groves would defeat the Wildcats by two strokes, 182-184.
‘It was a close match and a very well played match,? Kelley said. ?184 is below our average for us in terms of scoring, but we hit another hot team and they came out on top.?
Kurczewski again lead the Wildcats with a 41, while fellow freshman Emily Cleland shot a 45. Also contributing was sophomore Riley Hayes and Wolanin, who both shot a 49.
Prior to their losses, the girls team soundly defeated Troy Athens 187-212 on Sept. 9.
Kurczewski was the leading medalist for the Wildcats, shooting a 44.
Beebe was right on Kurczewski’s heels, shooting a 46 and Wolanin and Defrain rounded out the scoring for Oxford, shooting a 46 and 51 respectively.
Oxford is 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the OAA (2-2 in the white division). Their next OAA match is at Bloomfield Hills Lasher on Sept. 27.
