Helping the homeless

Junior Girl Scout Troop 849 is collecting new toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes, shampoo, conditioner and other assorted toiletry items, all of which will be donated to ‘The Place of Hope? Warming Center, a local homeless shelter operated during the winter months at the St. John Baldwin United Methodist Church and Center in Pontiac. The girls dubbed the project ‘Stop Others Suffering? (SOS). Donations can be dropped off in collection boxes located at the Oxford Village and Lake Orion police departments until Monday, Feb. 28. In addition to helping the needy, the scouts are hoping the project will win them the coveted ‘Bronze Award,? the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can earn for community service. Good luck girls!
