Lady Cats suffer back-to-back routs

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (WOLL) took advantage of the youth and inexperience of the varsity girls basketball team, handily defeating the Wildcats 60-18.
‘We played an excellent, veteran and well coached team tonight and it was an education for our young team,? admitted varsity head coach Al Poynter.
The reigning Class D state champions forced Oxford into committing more turnovers (29) than their 18 total points.
WOLL led 26-7 at the end of the first half.
Sophomore Miranda Murphy led the Wildcats with six points and four rebounds and senior Mikela Parrish had five points and seven rebounds.
The Wildcats would also lose a lopsided game against Romeo, 66-14 on Friday, Dec. 10.
Sophomore Emma Kimmel led Oxford with six points.
‘Even though the score doesn’t reflect it, we are starting to see some things that we are preaching in pratice come to life out on the court,? Poynter said.
‘We have to keep a good attitude, give maximum effort, minimize distractions, stay together and build on the positives as we enter league play,? he added.
Oxford opened Oakland Activities Association play against Rochester Adams on Tuesday, Dec. 14 starting at 7 p.m. and will travel to Southfield on Friday, Dec. 17.
