A total of 19 fourth-grade teams representing Oxford’s elementary schools competed in Battle of the Books on April 10 at the Oxford High School Performing Arts Center.

The fourth-graders read five books on their own time in preparation for the Battle. Competition was fierce this year as three teams were tied after the initial round of 15 questions.

It took six tie-breaker questions to reach a winner. Lakeville Elementary’s ‘Bookworms’ were crowned the champions.

The award for Best Team Name went to the Fire Reading Dragons (Oxford Elementary) and the award for Best Costume went to the Liberty Belles (Leonard Elementary).

Battle of the Books is a partnership between Oxford Public Library, Oxford Community Schools, and for the first time, Kingsbury Country Day School.
