Letter carriers’ food drive Saturday

Oxford and Addison residents are encouraged to leave nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes on Saturday, May 14.

That’s because the National Association of Letter Carriers will be conducting its 24th Annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive locally and across the country.

Mail carriers from the Oxford and Lake Orion post offices, along with volunteers, will be collecting nonperishable food donations to stock the shelves of the Oxford-Orion FISH pantry.

FISH provides free groceries to people in need living in Oxford, Orion and Addison townships along with a small portion of Oakland Township.

Residents are ask to place their food donations in sturdy bags and leave them by their mailboxes for pickup between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Last year, the Stamp Out Hunger drive collected a total of 38,392 pounds of food for FISH. Of that, 11,770 pounds came from the Oxford Post Office, while the remaining 26,622 pounds was from Lake Orion.

FISH relies heavily on this food drive to carry it through to the fall.
