Middle school hosts robo rumble

More than 30 area robotics teams gathered at Oxford Middle School last Saturday to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) qualifying event on Saturday. OMS robotics teams competing that day were TOWR 5291, the Cyborg Cats Team 11231 and the ElektraKatz Team 11230.

Team TOWR 5291 ended in 17th place that day, with six qualifying points and 336 ranking points. They were the second team picked in the elimination round and played in two semi-final matches. Their alliance was eliminated. The team won the Connect Award and the third place Inspire Award.

The Cyborg Cats Team 11231 ended in 11th place with six qualifying points and 635 ranking points. They won the Control Award, which recognizes a team that uses sensors and software to increase the robots functionality on the field.

The ElektraKatz Team 11230 ended in 35th place with no qualifying points and 310 ranking points.

Teams TOWR 5291 and the Cyborg Cats Team 11230 will head to Battle Creek for the FIRST in Michigan FTC State Championship on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16.
