A case of drunk driving

Near midnight on Nov. 4, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were made aware of a speeding driver heading into Oxford and appearing unable to remain in the correct lane. A deputy was able to track down the vehicle, a silver Dodge Town and Country, which was being driven by a 71-year-old Waterford man. According to the police report, the officer observed the car speeding southbound on Lapeer Rd., nearly hitting the curb a number of times. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the driver said he had consumed four 32 oz. beers that evening. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol, watery eyes and slurred speech from the man.

While undergoing sobriety tests, the man was unable to maintain his balance, according to the report. The man was also unable to pass the alphabet, counting backwards and months of the year tests. The tests were not physical because the man reported having bad knees. A preliminary breath test showed the man had a blood alcohol content of .123. Because of this, the man was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence. His vehicle was impounded and he was taken to the Oakland County Jail.
