A runaway and a trashcan fire

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Crossroads for Youth in Oxford on the evening on Sept. 9 to help locate a runaway teenager. A 14-year-old resident of Crossroads had run away, and was later found by an employee without incident. While searching for the girl, deputies found a trash fire in the girls’ bathroom and an appeared attempt at lighting the gas tank of a Crossroads van on fire, according to the incident report. The girl said she was being bullied and needed to get away for a while, saying she didn’t light any fires and didn’t want to hurt anyone. Deputies found matches in a book the girls was carrying and found matches in the gas tank of the van, but have no definitive proof that the girl lit or attempted to light any fires.

Unable to sniff out a thief

On Sept. 10, deputies found an abandoned vehicle in Oxford and, after running the license plate number, determined the vehicle had been stolen from Lake Orion. According to the police report, a K-9 tracked the scent of the suspected thief from the vehicle’s location on Oak Ridge Rd. to Dunlap Rd., but was unable to track it any further. The car was found later in a different location by deputies, and was towed from there.

Gone for a ride

A 51-year-old Oxford woman called Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies to report an alleged domestic assault by her housemate, a 64-year-old man. The man wanted to drive the homeowner’s car, who was gone on a hospital stay. The female said the homeowner said nobody was allowed to drive her car while she was gone. According to the police report, the female said when she informed her housemate of this, after he said he needed to drive, he pushed her down and took the keys from her. She also told officers he had consumed six cans of beer before leaving. When the housemate returned, he denied the allegations. The police report says the man did well on sobriety test and had a PBT of .0538, which is under the legal limit. He was taken to the county jail for domestic assault, but was later taken to the hospital for heart issues.
