There’s a good chance children in Addison Township will be saying “Let it snow!” this winter, once the construction of a permanent sledding hill behind Addison Township Hall is completed.

The project comes with no cost to the township, as all labor and materials are being donated, according to Addison Supervisor Bruce Pearson

More than 200 tons of dirt have been donated so far by T.K.M.S/Lou’s Transport Inc. in Pontiac.

“We’ll keep donating more dirt until they’re done with the sledding hill so everyone can have fun on it,” said TKMS Foreman Jim Coleman. “We work hard for a living and we like to give to our community and neighbors.”

Several members of the Addison Township community have also pitched in to the project. Mike Fritchi of Addison Township donated his bulldozer to be used for the project while fellow Addison Township resident Earl Caron has donated his time and labor towards operation of the bulldozer.

Construction on the project just began last week and is likely be finished over the next few weeks, according to Pearson.

“Once the snow falls, it’ll definitely get (the kids) away from their video games and bring them back to the old-time fun like it used to be,” said Pearson.

But it’s not just kids in Addison Township that will reap the benefits from the township hall’s latest update. The hill, which will neighbor the senior center at the township hall, may just bring generations of Addison residents together, according to Pearson.

“Back in the 1860s there was a one room school house there and that was a sledding hill,” he said. “We still have a lot of people in Addison Township that remember it as a sledding hill, so they’re happy to see it come back… and in the wintertime, after we put the fireplace at the top and everything, it’ll be great. The seniors can look right out the window and watch the kids.”
