Lately, the words ‘Future bond issue? have come up in certain Clarkston community school discussion topics.
So when is Clarkston community schools looking for another bond issue? Why is another needed?
‘The schools aren’t looking at another bond issue for another six years,? said Superintendent Dr. Al Roberts. ‘There is no imminent plan for a bond.?
Roberts added that the mention of a bond was specifically made during the redistricting debates because of residents concern about future redistricting. The next bond will be years down the road when the district plans to build another elementary school; until then, Roberts says nothing will happen for a while.
In the future bond, a new elementary school will be included. As for other items, Roberts stated that projecting now for years ahead would be inaccurate and impossible.
In the 2003 bond issue, the construction currently underway on Clarkston schools was planned, with the exception of the Clarkston High School Master Facilities Plan.
‘We did not include the Master Facilities plan in the last bond because we weren’t ready to do it at that time,? said Roberts. ‘Since the bond, we have had numerous meetings regarding the facilities plan and after meeting with parks, other schools and professionals, it is a real need.?
Currently, the district is paying off five bonds: 1993 for the construction of Springfield Plaines Elementary; 1995 for Clarkston High School; 1997 for Independence Elementary; 1998 is refunding 1995; and 2003 is refunding 1997.
