Swimmers set school records

The swim team didn’t focus on the end result of the meet against Troy on January 15. They focused on swimmers setting school records and swimmers qualifying for the county and state meet.
Senior Jake Rush set a new school record in the 50 freestyle event with a time of 22.85.
‘It was nice,? said Rush about his achievement. ‘I have been working on it and got the time I wanted. I would like to try for the low 22s, if I can.?
Senior Bobby Nelson and sophomore Kenny Stepflug also set school records in their events, Nelson in the 200 IM (2:05.37) Stepflug in the 200 freestyle (1:48.32).
Diver Jordan Zendejas beat his own record with a score of 294.40.
All four qualified for March’s state meet.
During the 100 freestyle, Stepflug took first place and Nelson took second. Rush placed first in the 100 backstroke. Stepflug, Nelson, Rush and Mike Inch took first place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:30.57.
The boys lost the meet to Troy, 101.5 ? 83.5.
Clarkston has three more meets until the Oakland County meet in February.
They head to Berkley this Thursday.
‘We are going to try our best,? said Rush. ‘Hopefully we will do as good as we hope.?

Oxford swimmers had a good day at the pool during the Oakland County swim meets as they set two school records during the meet.
The first record that fell was in the 200 Medley Relay, where the team of senior Jenna Mallard, sophomore Laura Zorle, freshman Haley Kornburger and junior Amanda delaPaz time of 2:03.00 came in .50 seconds ahead of the previous record.
A school record was set in the 400 Freestyle relay when the team of Mallard, delaPaz sophomore Casey Keils and Kornburger finished with a time of 3:59.63.
Senior diver Jade Casadei finished 28th out of 51 divers.
Hornburger also placed 21st in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.96. She also swam in the 100 Butterfly, finishing 11 with a time of 1:01.85.
The 200 Freestyle Relay of delaPaz, junior Anna Daves, senior Sarah Skelton and Mallard finished 32nd with a time of 1:52.60.
Overall, the Wildcats finished 26 out of 33 teams.
In their duel meet against Lapeer High School on Tuesday, Sept. 28, the Wildcats set three school records during their 96-81 victory. Their record now stands at 4-2 and will face Troy Athens High School on Thursday, Oct. 14 during Senior night.
The results from the meet are:
200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A relay of Mallard, Zorle, Kornburger and delaPaz finished first with a time of 2:04.97. The B relay of sophomore Caitlyn Wroblewski, freshman Elizabeth Wilkins, junior Brooklyn Allen and sophomore Courtney Lavender was third.
200 Freestyle: Mallard set a school record with her first place time of 2:10.24. Keils and Sarah Skelton were second and third respectively.
200 Individual Medley: Wroblewski’s time of 2:45.33 placed her first for the Wildcats, while Wilkins came in second and sophomore Sammi Kurk was fifth.
50 Freestyle: delaPaz finished in the top spot for the Wildcats with her time of 27.80. Daves finished second and freshman Rose Crane rounded out the top five.
Diving: Casadei came in first with a total diving score of 195.45. Senior Kayla Pollard was second and senior Janine Huelsman was fourth.
100 Butterfly. Kornburger finished second with a school record time of 1:01.70. Allen and Zorle came in third and fifth place respectively.
100 Freestyle: delaPaz edged out the competition for first place with her time of 1:01.50. Daves and Keils came in third and fourth place respectively.
500 Freestyle: Mallard came in first with a time of 5:52.72 and Skelton was second for the Wildcats.
200 Freestyle Relay: The A relay of delaPaz, Daves, Skelton and Mallard finished first with a time of 1:54.27. The B relay of Zorle, senior Jasmine Vickery, Crane and Keils was third.
100 Backstroke: Kornburger established a school record with her time of 1:03.17. Wroblewski and sophomore Miranda Murphy finished third and fourth respectively.
100 Breaststroke: Oxford swept the event with Zorle coming in first with a time of 1:21.22. Wilkins came in second and junior Emily Gilmore was third.
400 Freestyle relay: The A relay of Keils, Skelton, Daves and Kornburger finished first with a time of 4:10.69. The B relay of Kurk, Vickery, Murphy and Wroblewski was third for Oxford.
