Town hall meeting on Venture proposal

Residents are invited to attend a Thursday, Oct. 27 town hall meeting regarding a proposal to transform the existing Oxford Village municipal complex on W. Burdick St. into a mixed-use development that includes affordable apartments for senior citizens.

The 6 p.m. meeting will take place at Immanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Hovey and Dennison streets, one block west of M-24. The address is 1 Hovey St.

Venture, Inc., a subsidiary of the nonprofit Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, is proposing to purchase the 1.7-acre complex for $450,000.

It wants to renovate and expand the existing 13,624-square-foot building to accommodate a mix of commercial, retail and office space. Venture is also proposing to add second and third floors to the existing building to accommodate 32 to 40 one and two-bedroom apartments for senior citizens age 55 and older.

Venture will pitch its proposal at this town hall meeting instead of doing it at the Oct. 25 village council meeting as was originally planned and publicized.

Citizens are encouraged to learn about this proposal and provide their input.
