We know Bush and Kerry, but who’s running locally?

The main attraction in the Tuesday, Nov. 2 election is of course the presidential race between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat John Kerry.
But locally, Oxford and Addison voters will also be electing 14 township board officials, 12 library board trustees and five parks and recreation commissioners. A total of 37 local candidates are running for township offices.
Three independent candidates are running for the Addison Township Board of Trustees (see candidate questionnaires beginning on page 10).
In the supervisor’s race, 12-year incumbent Republican Robert Koski will square off against independent challenger Sereal Gravlin.
Independent Chris Newby is challenging Republican incumbent Dan Alberty for the position of Addison treasurer.
In the Addison trustee race, five candidates are vying for four seats ? Republican incumbents Ed Brakefield and John Sutphin, Republican primary winners Claudia Von Drak and Christine Sypitkowski and independent candidate Russell Astrino.
Addison Clerk Republican Pauline Bennett faces no Democratic or independent challengers.
All seven seats on the Oxford Township board are uncontested in the general election.
Republican incumbents Supervisor Bill Dunn, Treasurer Joe Ferrari, Clerk Clara Sanderson, and trustees Charles Kniffen and Pat Fitchena all face no Democratic challengers Tuesday.
Republican primary winners Sue Bellairs and Doleen Behnke are also running unopposed for the remaining Oxford trustee seats.
Eight candidates are vying for six, four-year seats on the non-partisan library board of trustees in Addison Township.
Incumbents Nina Ciccolini, Jerald Thomas, Richard Feuerbach and Paul Woodring are fighting to retain their positions, while newcomers Sandra Craddock, Susan James, Esther Reynolds and Karen Koski are hunting for seats.
In Oxford, six candidates are seeking six seats on the non-partisan library board of trustees.
Incumbents Kathleen Hoeflein, Donald Lovell, Tom Offer, Duane Salswedel and Irene Schaible will retain their seats for another four years. They will welcome newcomer Doris Stilwell to the board.
Six candidates are battling for five seats on the Oxford Parks and Recreation Commission.
Incumbent Republicans Sharon Kline, Richard Laidler, Lynda Mueller and Alyse Prince are all hoping to keep their seats. They will face newcomers Republican Theresa Myer and Democrat Robert Martin.
