Wildcats outswim Raiders

The Wildcats outswam fellow Oakland Activities Association (OAA) white division team N. Farmington 119-66 in the Oxford pool on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Oxford won two of the relay races. The B Relay team of Claire Alexander, Kaleigh Rogers, Peyton Bailey and Laura Mace won the  200 Medley Relay. The A Relay team of Jenna Fistler, Peyton Bailey, Grace Charnstrom and Ashlee Weltyk won the 400 Freestyle Relay.

In the individual races, Oxford took home a number of wins and even made some history.

Weltyk earned a double win, coming in first for the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle. Her 500 Freestyle was fast enough to put her second on the list of Oxford’s fastest times for that event. Cali Schnur also took home a double win, taking first in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke. Her breaststroke win put her fifth on Oxford’s fastest times for that event.

Bailey won the 50 Freestyle and Charnstrom took home first for the 100 Backstroke. Charstrom’s win out her fifth among Oxford’s fastest for that event.

On the diving end, Keira Veltigian won the diving event with a score of 257.75, which is the highest a lady Wildcat has ever earned in that event, and made the pool record.

Though the team took home a solid number of wins, Head Coach Jackie Rank plans to take the close finishes, losses and disqualifications with the hopes of “learn(ing from them) moving forward.”

The Wildcats will swim again on Sept. 20 where they’ll host a dual meet at home against Rochester.
