It was seven hours of nonstop fun and learning Friday for sixth-graders as Oxford Middle School conducted its first-ever ‘In-house Science Field Trip.?
Experts from a variety of science-related fields and groups were invited to talk with students about everything from groundwater pollution and birds of prey to sound waves and future NASA missions.
‘By including a wide variety of topics, we were able to introduce students to people who use science in real life,? said OMS science teacher Jennifer Bennett. ‘Students could see occupations in the real world where science is applied.?
But it wasn’t all talking. Many of the presentations involved interactive experiences.
The students got to play musical instruments, shoot water out of squirt guns, get up close and personal with hawks and turkey vultures, and become human gyroscopes.
All in all, everyone had a fun day, according to Bennett.
