Oh, the temperature outside was frightful, but the fermented beverages inside were delightful.

Instead of hiding in their homes from the freezing weather Sunday afternoon, 105 folks attended the Oxford Women’s Club’s 15th Annual Wine and Beer Tasting held at the Buhl Estate in Addison Oaks County Park.

The fund-raiser netted nearly $2,600 for the club’s scholarship fund, which benefits students, both female and male, living in the Oxford school district or attending an Oxford area school. Recipients receive a minimum of $1,000 each.

Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 to be eligible.

Scholarships are open to students planning to attend two or four-year schools, technical schools or programs that lead to some type of certification.

Special education students are welcome to apply as well if they’re planning to pursue an education beyond high school.

Applications can be obtained at the OHS counseling office, online or by calling Barbara Kriigel at (248) 693-8066. Kriigel’s email address is bkriigel@umich.edu.

The deadline to apply is Monday, March 19.
