CDBG funds discussed

Local units of government have scheduled meetings to figure out what they are going to do with their Community Development Block Grant Funds (CDBG).

The purpose of these public hearings are to “review community development and housing needs, inform citizens of the availability of funds and eligible uses of CDBG funds.” The public is invited to share their ideas on how to spend these funds.

Oxford Township, with about $30,590 in CDBG funds, will meet on Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Addison Township’s hearing is on Nov. 18, starting at 6 p.m. They have approximately $9,660 in CDBG funds.

Leonard Village has about $7,000 to spend. They met Monday night. Oxford Village met on Tuesday night to discuss their $11,121 in CDBG funds.

Holiday wreaths for veteran graves

Local Boy Scout Troop 366 is raising funds for Wreaths Across America. The troop is trying to raise enough money to place wreaths on all the veterans’ graves at Ridgelawn Memorial Cemetery, on E. Burdick St.

“Placing a wreath not only honors those who have gone before, but reassures living veterans and their families that they will never be forgotten. Every veteran’s name is spoken aloud when a wreath is placed on their grave,” said Kim Burean, Service Project Coordinator.

A $15 sponsorship will pay for one wreath made of live greenery to be placed on a veteran’s grave. A “three-for-two” sponsorship special is availabe, too — Wreaths Across America will donate one wreath for every two sponsored.

Sponsorships can be made by visiting http://bit.ly/WAATROOP366 and clicking on the red ‘Donate’ button. Or, send a check made payable to “Troop 366” to Boy Scout Troop 366, c/o Oxford United Methodist Church, 21 East Burdick Street, Oxford, MI 48371. All donations are tax deductible.

The wreaths will be placed on the veterans’ graves before the noon Wreaths Across America Ceremony on Dec.14. The ceremony is open to the public and all are welcome to honor and remember our veterans. For more information, contact Kim Burean at 248-894-0782.
