Fire department runs up 3 percent

On Monday, Oxford Fire Department released their run totals for last year. According to their release, the department saw a three percent increase in the number of calls over 2018.
According to their numbers, in 2019 Oxford firefighters responded to 2, 017 total calls — 1,648 in the township, 363 in Oxford Village and 78 mutual aid calls into other communities. A majority of their calls, 1,808, were for medical emergencies. They also responded to 281 fire calls.
There were also 18 “cut in errors” listed. These are clerical errors in dispatch which generate incident numbers. Sometimes they are a repeat number or run for another department.

Beer, wine fund-raiser Jan. 26

The Oxford Women’s Club will host their 16th annual Beer and Wine Tasting Fundraiser on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Addison Oaks Banquet Center. Proceeds from this fund-raiser goes to their scholarship program. Last year the club awarded $10,000 in scholarships to Oxford students.
“Our goal is to exceed that amount this year, “ said club member Nancy Wray.
Tom Wrobel from Oxford’s Gravel Capital Brewing Company will be on hand as the afternoon’s “beer” consultant. Jack Zetouna from the Zetouna Liquour Store will discuss wines. In addition to beer and wine, there will be complimentary gourmet hors d’oevures and desserts. Doors open at 1 and close at 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 each and must be purchased by Jan. 15. Tree trimming

This year DTE will be out in full force in Oxford trimming trees. The area, in general, is from Oakwood Rd., south down M-24 into Orion Township and around Dunlap Rd, to Seymour Lake Rd. Details on how trees on home-owners’ properties will be trimmed will be provided in door hangers left at affected properties.
