Cats sending 11 to wrestling regionals

Oxford advanced 11 wrestlers at a Feb. 11 Division 1 individual district wrestling tournament held at Troy High School.

There were 16 schools represented at the tournament, with only the top four from each weight class qualifying for the individual regional to be held this weekend.

Eleven out of the fourteen Oxford athletes who competed that day will advance to individual regionals.

Oxford athletes advancing to the next level are sophomore Matthew Curtis (103), junior Daltan Myers (119), senior Garrett Tyrrell (130), junior Sergio Borg (135), sophomore Joe Vackaro (135), junior Ryan Miller (140), Caleb Tabert (145), sophomore Trent Myer (152), sophomore Devin Trevino (160), senior Dallas Winkelman (189), and senior Byron Schlickenmeyer (215).

On Feb. 9, The Oxford Wildcats took first place in the District Championship, defeating the Romeo Bulldogs 43-33 in the opening round before beating Port Huron 78-6 in the final round.

Sophomore Matthew Curtis (103), sophomore Liam Hillary (112), senior Garrett Tyrell (130), junior Sergio Borg (135), junior Ryan Miller (140), sophomore Caleb Tabert (145), sophomore Devin Trevino (160), and sophomore Austin Schlicht (171) all went 2-0 that night.

Junior Dalton Myers (119), senior Jacob Call (125), sophomore Trent Myre (152), senior Dallas Winkelman (189), and senior Peter Valtigian (215) went 1-1.

The individual regionals will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at Oxford High School (745 N. Oxford Rd.), beginning at 8 a.m.
