Dragons burn boys in first track meet

Just after the weather warmed up enough to get out on the track, Oxford hosted its first meet of the season on March 27 against the Lake Orion Dragons. Though the boys took a 91-37 loss, 71 personal records were set by Wildcats and some made event wins.

Junior Scott Masterson, expected to be a standout this season, had a big night by taking second in the 100 Meter, running on the winning 4×800 Relay team and winning the 800 Meter event with a time of 2:00.15.

Other Wildcats to place well in running events were senior Logan Coughlin with a third place finish in the 400 Meter, junior Zach Allion with third in the 1,600 Meter and senior Hunter Green with second in the 3,200 Meter.

Junior Shane Ross and sophomore Barett Coleman gave Oxford points in the hurdling events. Ross, known for his all-in spirit, took second and Coleman took third in the 110 Meter and 300 Meter Hurdle events.

Going into the field events, junior Christian Lebich gave Oxford third place points in Shot Put, and junior Trey Townsend, a former state qualifier, gave Oxford first place points in the High Jump with a five foot, nine inch leap.

Though Pole Vault isn’t scored by the OAA, Oxford took the three top spots, led by senior standout Sam Murray who won with 12 feet, six inches. Juniors Shane Moore and Kyle Gerstenberger took second and third, respectively.
