For the next year, Lake Orion High School will have bragging rights and the Double O Trophy as the Dragons dominated the Oxford Wildcats Friday night.

Things started out slowly as the rivals ended the first quarter tied at zero.

Lake Orion struck first in the second quarter with a 36-yard field goal, followed by a touchdown before the half ended.

The third quarter spelled disaster for the Cats as the Dragons mounted a scoring drive on the opening kickoff that increased their lead to 17-0. Lake Orion’s defense then forced a turnover that resulted in another touchdown for the Dragons.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Dragons were in the lead 31-0.

Late in the game, Oxford finally put two touchdowns on the board. Caleb Tabert scored on a 4-yard run, then Joseph Miller hooked up with Matthew Curtis on a 9-yard touchdown grab.

Drew Carpenter finished with 13 carries for 42 yards, while Tabert had 10 touches for 52 yards. Quarterback Parker Fleming completed 13 of 20 pass attempts for 146 yards.

Oxford’s record now stands at 1-5 in the OAA Red and 1-6 overall.

The Wildcats will play their homecoming game this Friday at 7 p.m. against Bloomfield Hills.

The homecoming parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and follow the usual route beginning on East St., then heading north on N. Glaspie St./N. Oxford Rd. to the high school.
