Dragons top Cats in the pool

After a close meet, the Wildcat swimmers lost to rivals Lake Orion 97-89 on Oct. 11.

As the swimmers have all season, they managed to pick up quick times and set season records despite losing the overall competition.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Oxford picked up second with a time of 1:56.38. The A Relay swimmers  were junior Ashlee Weltyk, sophomore Grace Charnstrom, sophomore Jenna Fistler and freshman Cali Schnur.

Later in the 200 Freestyle Relay, the Wildcat A Relay team took second and swam a time of 1:46.34. The swimmers were Weltyk, junior Kaleigh Rogers, senior Cailin Griffith and sophomore Laura Mace.

In  the longer 400 Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay team took third. The swimmers were Charnstrom, freshman Allison Mooney, sophomore Peyton Bailey and sophomore Adeline Bishop. They swam a time of 4:14.93.

Fistler picked up her usual wins in the individual events, claiming first in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:02.81 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:27.63. Her 500 time was a personal best.

Weltyk also took home two wins. The swimmer won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke with times of 2:15.63 and 1:01.29, respectively.

In the 100 Butterfly, Schnur took home first, finishing in 1:02.99. Schnur then  picked up third in the 50 Freestyle with her time of 26.24. Charnstrom also did well in two events, grabbing second in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:15.36 and third in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 58.75.

Senior Keira Veltigian again left the diving event victorious and scored 236.80.

After celebrating the seniors in the last home meet of the season on Oct. 16 against Royal Oak, the ladies will be back in the pool Oct. 31 in the OAA white preliminaries.
