Final approval granted for Tractor Supply

Lots of minutiae was discussed at length – such as the pros and cons of building with stained versus painted concrete block – but there were no major issues as the Oxford Township Planning Commission voted 7-0 last week to grant final site plan approval for a new Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) store.

The TSC store would be located on the west side of M-24, just south of Market St., between the Oxford Bank Mortgage Center and the Burning Oak Smokehouse restaurant.

It would sit on a 3.87-acre commercially-zoned vacant piece of land, which is currently the northern portion of a larger 7.33-acre parcel. A lot split must still be obtained from the township.

DMK Development, of Norton Shores, Michigan, has a purchase agreement for the land. It will build the store, then lease it to TSC. The company plans to turn the completed store over to TSC by the end of February 2017, so it can open at the end of March.

As part of the store, TSC will have 24,222 square feet of outdoor sales and display areas. Back in April, the planning commission granted a special land use allowing it.

Headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, TSC has 1,550 locations spread across 49 states.

Right now, the closest TSC stores are in Ortonville, Lapeer and Washington Township near Romeo.

Founded in 1938 as a mail-order business, TSC now bills itself as a “rural lifestyle retail store,” catering to the needs of farmers, ranchers, horse owners, rural homeowners, do-it-yourself enthusiasts, contractors, tradesmen and small businesses.
