It appears four new faces will be joining the township boards in Oxford and Addison this November.

Based on the unofficial results from Oakland County, newcomers Margaret Payne and Elgin Nichols won the Republican primary race for trustee seats on the Oxford Township Board. Payne received 1,451 votes, while Nichols garnered 1,222 votes.

Payne worked for the Oxford Fire Department from 1995-2015, while Nichols served on the Oxford Village Council from 2012-14.

Incumbent trustees Jack Curtis and Patti Durr also won the GOP primary with 1,508 votes and 1,288 votes, respectively. Curtis was the top vote-getter among the trustee candidates.

Melvin “Buck” Cryderman, a trustee since 2008, was defeated in the five-candidate race for four seats. He received 1,218 votes.

When asked if he intends to request a recount given the closeness of the results, Cryderman replied, “I’m going to talk it over with my wife in the next few days and we’re going to make a decision.”

Over in Addison, newcomers Joel King and Jacob Newby, an 18-year-old Eagle Scout and college student, won the Republican primary for township trustee seats. Each received 345 votes.

Incumbent Addison trustees Erich Senft and Linda Gierak also won the GOP primary with 395 votes and 387 votes, respectively.

Candidates Philip Marshall, Jennie Eller and Deanna Cushing were defeated in the seven-person race for four trustee seats. Marshall and Eller each received 338 votes, while Cushing, who serves as the deputy supervisor for Oxford Township, garnered 285 votes.

The supervisor, clerk and treasurer races in both Oxford and Addison were all uncontested in the GOP primary.

Oxford Supervisor Bill Dunn received 1,982 votes, Clerk Curtis Wright garnered 1,981 votes and Treasurer Joe Ferrari got 1,977 votes.

Addison Supervisor Bruce Pearson and Clerk Pauline Bennett each received 771 votes, while Treasurer Lori Fisher garnered 764 votes.

None of the township primary winners in Oxford and Addison will face any Democratic challengers in the November general election as no Democrats ran in the Aug. 2 primary.

In the primary race for the Republican nomination for the 46th District seat in the state House of Representatives, John Reilly, of Oakland Township, narrowly defeated Addison resident Joe Kent. Reilly received 6,460 votes to Kent’s 6,429 votes.

When asked if he intends to seek a recount given only 31 votes separated him from his opponent, Kent responded, “We’re still very busy studying the figures that we’ve received and considering what our options are. I wish I could elaborate, but that’s where we’re at right now. We’re in a fact-finding mode.”

Reilly will face Democrat David Lillis, of Lake Orion, in November. Lillis ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and received 2,940 votes.

A request to approve an eight-year, 0.75-mill property tax to support the Addison Township Fire Department’s capital improvement fund was approved by voters 735 to 340.

Voter-turnout was low in both townships.

In Oxford, 3,455 (or 22.78 percent) of the 15,164 registered voters cast a ballot.

Over in Addison, 1,171 (or 24.6 percent) of the 4,759 registered voters participated in the election.
