Improving to 12-2 in 2021 and extending their season-long win streak to eight games, the Oxford girls’ soccer team easily dispatched the Lakes Valley Conference’s Waterford Kettering Captains, 8-0, in a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) District No. 6 quarterfinal on May 27 at Wildcat Stadium.
Oxford will next battle the Saginaw Valley League Champion Grand Blanc Bobcats (13-2-3, 8-0-1) in the semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lapeer High School, the host of the district.
The Davison Cardinals and Lake Orion Dragons will square off in the other semifinal on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
If the Wildcats can defeat the Bobcats, the district championship game is slated for Friday at 6 p.m.
Against the Captains, Oxford jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the halftime break and reached the eight-goal mercy rule with 11:56 to play.
Junior Carly Boyd, who scored the game’s final goal, finished with four, with senior Mackenzie “Mackie” Methner adding three and freshman Ella Boyd tallying the other.
Goaltender Brianna Barrows, a junior, recorded the shutout.
Methner’s hat trick gave her 24 goals this season, the most on the team, with Ella Boyd at 18 and Carly Boyd at 17.
