A house fire that ripped through a house at the corner of M-24 and Brauer Rd., just outside Oxford Township, in Metamora could have been a lot worse for the family of Theodore and Perdema Duncan. Luckily, two good samaitans were on duty.
According to reports, the Duncans were awakened sometime after the fire started in a garage located on the west side of the house, at 5 a.m., this past Saturday.
‘As early as we could tell, the fire must have started there and gradually spread,? said Ted Duncan.
Firefighters from nine different stations, including Oxford, were finally able to put out the blaze around 1 p.m. Duncan was able to make it outside of the home, but when he went to look for his wife Perdema, he wasn’t able to find her.
That is when he realized she was still in the house.
‘My mom got confused and got lost in there in the smoke, and I tried to go in there, but couldn’t,? said Jennifer Duncan, the couple’s daughter.
According to Jennifer, who lives right behind her parents, two men from Oxford stopped and helped get her out.
One was on his way home from his job in Flint. According to Jennifer, he had worked overtime that day and had taken a differnt way home.
‘So here comes this guy and I said well my wife is still in there,? Ted said. ‘He saw the smoke, pulled in and he went from window to window and the two of them busted out the window and pulled her out through the window.?
Perdema was taken to Hurley Medical Center in Flint and treated for smoke inhilation.
‘They are the real heroes, because without their help, my wife might have expired because I wasn’t strong enough to bring that window down,? Ted said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Metamora Fire Department. The Metamora Fire Department did not return repeated phone call attempts.
