The Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative (Michigan CSI) is an Internet safety education program with customized presentations for kindergarten through eighth-grade students and a community seminar. At 6 p.m., Feb. 16, Michigan CSI will be at the Goodrich Middle School Media Center, 7480 Gale Road Goodrich, to present the community seminar.
Connie Brauer, PTO Program Coordinator for the Goodrich Area School District, believes the seminar is a beneficial way for families to make sure they’re protected against online predators.
‘The school administration was interested in holding these seminars to build safety awareness in their child’s day to day activities when they’re using the internet,? Brauer said.
These classes will teach parents how to protect children from predators. Predators today typically use the Internet to befriend, seduce, and ultimately harm children. In order to proactively combat the problem, Michigan CSI will teach listeners how to obtain reliable information on parental control software, search and access social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook, view websites children have visited and modify settings for search engines such as Google.
