Guy Dempsey, Jr.

Former Oxford resident Guy Dempsey, Jr., of Dallas, Texas passed away on April 2, 2020. Mr. Dempsey was born in Oxford to Guy and Melva (nee Robinson) Dempsey, and was a long time resident here until leaving to serve in the United States Marine Corps.
In the Feb. 25, 1959 Oxford Leader, it was reported on Page 11, “Marine Pfc Guy Dempsey, Jr., of Seymour Lake Road, Oxford is scheduled to finish four weeks of individual combat training . .. at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California . . .”
In March of that year, The Leader followed up, reporting that “after boot camp . . . Mr. Dempsey” spent his 15-day furlough with his parents on Seymour Lake Road. After which he was to report back to base in California to undergo eight months of schooling in “Intelligence communication and electronics.”
He is survived by two children, Byron Dempsey and Cheyenne Ruby, both of Dallas; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Dempsey Jane; sister Betty Joe Gilomen and husband Don of Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Oxford, when time permits.
