Margaret Ruth Mayer

Margaret Ruth Mayer, of Lake City passed away September 5, 2016 at her home. She was 93.

Margaret was born April 29, 1923 in Lake Orion to Ward and Ethel (Jewell) Lake.Mayer, Margaret 001 BW

She married Edward A. Mayer May 20, 1950 in Lake Orion. He preceded her in death January 10, 2003.

Margaret graduated from Lake Orion High School and went on to study business at Pontiac Business Institute and became employed as an accountant at the Oxford Lumber Company, the Lake Orion Lumber Company and the Oxford State Bank.

She was an animal lover and a longtime supporter of the Missaukee Humane Society. Margaret was an avid reader and her passion was caring for rescue dogs.

Margaret regularly fed wild turkeys and deer and the birds in her yard.

She served as treasurer for many years of the Lake City Senior Center.

Margaret is survived by a sister in law Doris Ann Lake and nieces and nephews: Helen (Robert) McDowell, Gail (Dave) Hudnut, Carol (Gary) Leser, Terry (Linda) Lake, Larry (Donna) Lake, Donald (Hope) Lake, Roy Lake and Craig Lake.

She will be missed by her friends at the Lake City Senior Center and special neighbors Sandy and Steve Mason, who have been like family to her.

Besides her husband Edward, she was also preceded in death by a sister Doris Hill and brothers Abraham Lake, Donald Lake and Lloyd Lake

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City with Rev. Donald VanDyke officiated.

Burial took place in the West Branch Township Cemetery, Missaukee County.
