It was a day of big checks and even bigger hearts as students from Daniel Axford Elementary and Oxford Elementary presented checks totalling $13,829.73 to The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division.
The money will be used to help build at least 1,000 brand new homes in the tsunami-devastated region of Galle, Sri Lanka. The reconstruction project has been dubbed ‘From Michigan with Love.?
Daniel Axford collected $7,689.95 thanks to a Feb. 23 ‘Walk to Build? fund-raiser while Oxford Elementary raised $6,139.78 in January.
Students raised enough money to build at least two new houses with enough left over for a good start on funding a third home.
