One win, one loss for Oxford baseball

Oxford baseball’s record stayed even after another week of play. Now 2-2, the boys put checks in both the win and loss columns this week.

The pitching team led Oxford to a 9-0 shutout win on April 10 against Everest Collegiate Academy. Led by senior starter Karson Ulatowski, who pitched five innings and threw eight strike-outs, the Wildcats only allowed one hit throughout the night.

Head Coach Dave Herrick said the boys took off offensively in the fourth inning with five runs. Senior Joey Miller, junior Thomas Smalley, senior Ryan Upton and junior Drew Carpenter all made runs that drove Oxford to a wide lead. Overall, Smalley led the Wildcats offensively with his run and two stolen bases.

During its first game back from spring break on April 9, Oxford fell to Troy Athens 7-5.

Athens took the lead during the early innings and held onto it for the game’s entirety, leaving the Wildcats with a tough time catching up.

Herrick noted that junior Jesse Burch, who pitched the game’s last four innings, struck out four Colt batters and only allowed one run. Offensively, Smalley led the Wildcats with two hits.

Now with a 2-2 overall record, the boys will be back on the field on April 18 when they host Lake Orion. On April 16, the Wildcats travelled to Lake Orion after the Leader went to press.
