One win, two losses for Oxford’s tennis team

The Wildcats Varsity Tennis team started off last week strong in a game against Southfield A&T, but ultimately ended it with losses against Lake Orion and Farmington.

On Sept. 15, the Cats fell to the Lake Orion Dragons with an 8-0 score.

A good effort was shown by Lauren Opalewski at #1 Singles and Trevor Wallace at #4 Singles, according to Coach Ryan Ruzziconi.

On Sept. 14, the Cats took another loss to Farmington with a 6-2 score.

Oxford stood strong against the defending conference champions, but fell in the end. Oxford had wins from #3 Singles Hayden Durant (6-3,2-6,6-2) and from #1 Doubles Drew Galley & Jonathon Robb.

Oxford’s #3 Doubles, Cameron Mumbrue & Brenden Hamari, lost in a close three set tiebreak match (1-6, 6-4,10-2).

On Sept. 12, the team took a substantial win over Southfield A&T by a score of 8-0.

Oxford swept both Singles and Doubles flights and had wins from #1 Singles Opalewski (6-0,6-1), #2 Singles Connor Romine (7-5,6-4), #3 Singles Durant (6-1,6-3), and #4 Singles Wallace (6-1,6-2).

In Doubles, Oxford had wins from #1 Doubles Jonathan Robb-Drew Galley (6-1,6-0), #2 Doubles Dane VonAllmen-Brock Heilig (6-1,6-0), #3 Doubles Mumbrue-Hamari (6-0,6-0), and #4 Doubles Silas VonAllmen-Andrew Wassall (6-0,6-4).
