Oxford High School kicks off OHS Connects LIVE May 27

This Wednesday, May 27 at 3 pm the Oxford High School staff will present a LIVE virtual mental health fair at Oxford High School (745 North Oxford Road). The event will kick-off Oxford High School’s new mental health initiative and suicide prevention project called, “OHS Connects” and can be viewed on the OHS Connects Page: https://sites.google.com/oxfordschools.org/ohsconnects/home. This page was designed to address the mental health issues of teenagers, as well as help students remain connected to staff despite social distancing and school closures.

The LIVE event will include:

  • Dr. Andrea Wittenborn, from the Clinical Psychology Dept. at Michigan State University.  Dr. Wittenborn will be speaking to students live and answering their questions regarding anxiety, depression and issues related to COVID 19.
  • Five students will compete in a Nailed It Challenge where they create a cookie selfie of their principals in a timed race.
  • Celebrity Trainer, Alex Fine. Alex trains Saquon Barkley, the cast of Riverdale, Odell Beckham, Jr, to name a few.  He will be LIVE from LA challenging members of Oxford’s staff in his 6 minute ab challenge.  Participating with staff will be Oxford High School’s new Head Varsity Football Coach, Zach Line, former New Orleans Saints football player.
  • The LIVE event is to help kick-off Oxford High School’s interactive, comprehensive web page called Oxford Connects.  On the Oxford Connects site, students can access information and activities in the areas of Mental, Physical and Emotional Health.  In addition, there will be new weekly challenges, as well as staff TikTok Challenges throughout the summer.

In 2017, Oxford High School was featured on Nightline, CBS Evening News and local Detroit news programs for their suicide prevention project, 13 Reasons Why NOT13 Reasons Why NOT was chosen as “best practices in suicide prevention” by the Education Advisory Board out of 2,000 suicide prevention programs around the country.
