Even though it turned out to be a fake, officials took numerous precautions last week after a bomb threat was found at Oxford High School. The written threat was “considered to be low level,” according to information provided by Principal Mike Schweig. The message indicated the school would be blown up on June 17.

When Oxford Township voters trek to the polls in November, they’ll be asked to decide the fate of two police taxes – a straight 2.9152-mill renewal and a 0.75-mill increase.

An informational meeting regarding the proposed $44 million bond issue for Oxford schools is set or Wednesday. June 28. The $44 million bond issue will be decided by voters Sept. 11.

One woman is dead after she and a friend were hit by a car last week as they crossed North Washington St., in the dark. Meleny Johnson, 31, of Mayyille, died June 15 at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. She had been on life support since the night before. Several of her organs were donated, officials said.

July 1 the Oxford Fire Dept, will have a new chief. Elected to the post by his second assistant, fellow firemen was Dale Spiker, 35 of Pearl St. He has been on the dept, for ten years. He replaces Claude Rogers, who served as chief the pest 3 years.

“It’s going to be a long, drawn-out process,” is the way Donald Scripter described the development of the proposed new sewer system for the Oxford area. The slow process consists of planning, financial review, easement acquisition, selling bonds and the awarding of contracts. Locally, all the village and township have to do is pass an ordinance.

Addison Township Supervisor Robert Inwood of Leonard has filed for reelection and will be opposed in the primary by Robert L. Smith of Lakeville. They are Republicans. Democrat Dennis Vogel of Lakeville is unopposed as supervisor.
