Plans for Culver’s on M-24 submitted

Here’s a drawing of the proposed Culver’s restaurant that was part of the plans submitted to Oxford Township. If approved, it would be constructed on a 3.46-acre site on the west side of M-24 between Tractor Supply Co. and the Oxford Bank Mortgage Center.

When it comes to dining out, there’s no shortage of options in Oxford and soon, there could be one more.

Plans to build a 4,105-square-foot Culver’s restaurant with a drive-through have been submitted to the township.

The proposed site is 3.46 acres on the west side of M-24 between Tractor Supply Co. to the north and the Oxford Bank Mortgage Center to the south.

A request for preliminary site plan approval will be considered during the township planning commission’s Thursday, Aug. 22 meeting, which begins at 7 p.m..

At that same meeting, commissioners will also consider a special land use request to allow for a drive-through. Prior to their deliberations, there will be a public hearing on the issue as required by the zoning ordinance.

Independence Township resident Andrew Zielke, owner of Rosetta Building Company, is the applicant. He owns two other Culver’s restaurants in Rochester Hills and Livonia.

Zielke has a purchase agreement in place with the property’s owner, the Anthony Calliea Living Trust. When he was searching for a new location, Zielke said Oxford looked “promising” because of the “tremendous amount of growth” the area has been experiencing.

Zielke is excited about bringing Culver’s, with its signature Butterburgers and frozen custard, to Oxford. He said what separates Culver’s from other fast-food restaurants is that “everything’s made fresh to order” and the menu is large enough and diverse enough to “appeal to the whole family.”

On average, a Culver’s restaurant typically employs 30 to 35 people. The number varies depending on the mix of full-time and part-time employees.

“In Livonia, we have a lot more part-time people (whereas) in Rochester, there’s a lot more full-time people,” Zielke said.
