OXFORD TWP. – A tractor trailer spent hours laying across the northbound lanes of M-24, just north of Ray Rd., following a crash that occurred shortly after 12 a.m. on May 21.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, the tractor trailer, driven by a 41-year-old Flint man, was heading north on M-24 when a 2007 Ford, driven by an 18-year-old Dryden woman, pulled out in front of it while attempting to turn off Ray Rd.

The truck driver tried to avoid the Ford by swerving, but the two vehicles collided. The truck driver lost control, which caused the tractor trailer to tip over and come to rest on its side, according to the report.

Oxford firefighters transported the injured truck driver to McLaren Oakland hospital in Pontiac. Neither the driver of the Ford nor her passenger, a 19-year-old Almont man, reported any injuries.

The truck driver had the right of way as there was a flashing yellow light for northbound M-24 traffic at that time of day, the report stated. The Dryden driver had a flashing red light. She was cited for failure to yield.

The Dryden driver admitted “she did not see” the truck as she was “distracted and talking” to her passenger, the deputy wrote.

The tractor trailer spent hours on its side, blocking northbound M-24 because it was fully loaded with auto parts. Its contents had to be removed before the truck could be righted and towed.
