Rock the vote for Elissa!

Oxford residents can help one of their own become a local radio celebrity by voting for Elissa Harrison to become the 2010 WRIF Rock Girl.
‘I’m one of those people that loves being around others and this is just a great opportunity,? said the 2006 graduate of Oxford High School. ‘I have loved rock (music) since I was a little girl. This would be a dream job for me.?
Out of four casting calls featuring hundreds of lovely young ladies from around Metro Detroit, the 22-year-old Harrison was selected as one of 32 semifinalists to compete for the coveted Rock Girl title.
‘When I got the call this past Monday (March 29), I just like freaked out,? she said. ‘I’m really excited.?
The public can vote for Harrison now through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April 11 by visiting www.wrif.com. This vote will determine which ladies will go on to the next round of semifinals known as the ‘Sexy Sixteen.?
‘I am very down-to-earth,? she said. ‘I’m super friendly. I’m energetic. I’m up for the challenge. I know I can represent the WRIF.?
If she wins, Harrison would work for 101.1 FM for a full year as an on-air personality delivering the traffic reports from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. She would be working with the DJ known as Meltdown.
She would also represent the WRIF at concerts, VIP events and other promotions at local bars, nightclubs and retail locations.
For all this, Harrison would earn a $40,000 salary.
The prize also includes a full scholarship for the eight-month radio, video and film program at Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield.
Between salary and scholarship, the total prize package is worth $51,995.
Harrison will graduate from Oakland University in the fall with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
‘I have always been a people person,? she said.
She views this contest as a way to give her future career opportunities a boost.
‘It’s just kind of putting my name out there,? Harrison said.
When she’s not at school, she enjoys singing and playing sports. She sings the National Anthem for various hockey teams, including the Flint Generals and OU Grizzlies, and is available for weddings, parties and other musical events.
